JAIPUR: A government school in Alwar district has taken Swachhta Abhiyan to next level. Government Senior Secondary School of Umrain village in Alwar district has constructed school toilets in the shape of a school bus and named it ‘Swachhta Vahini’.
According to school authorities, a few months ago this government school building was damp and in rainy season it used to be waterlogged.
People in the village, panchayat authorities and school authorities decided to change its structure.
Principal Suman Yadav said, “This Swachhta Express will inspire students about cleanliness and importance of sanitation in the country. To attract more students to the government school with better facilities, school staff and villagers collected Rs 2 lakh. The entire school has been renovated with clean classrooms and Swachhta Vahini.”
The school was renovated and to save water, a water harvesting system was installed in the school. The water saved during rainy season will be utilised in the school garden and toilets.
The principal said the school has dedicated it to Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
“The school garden has been named Gandhi Vatika and principles of Gandhiji have been painted on the walls of the school. Moreover, historical places of Alwar district have been painted on the institute’s walls,” said Yadav.
District collector of Alwar painted the outer wall of the school with slogans like ‘Alwar Shakti’ and picture of a mobile application ‘Yuva Shakti’ developed in Alwar that will inspire digitalization among youth.
The school toilet and school premises have become a major attraction among villagers and they have started coming to take pictures inside the premises.
